If you’re planning on travelling to Croatia for the rest of this year or early next, here are the winter flights to Croatia you can utilise.
Winter Flights to Croatia from the UK
Zagreb is the best-connected airport from the UK this winter (in fact, in all winters!) with several airlines flying to there.
Excellently, Ryanair continues to maintain a year-round, daily connection from London Stansted to Zagreb. This is excellent news for travellers and allows a certain amount of flexibility in booking (usually) very reasonably priced flights. Zagreb is a Ryanair base, of course – as you will see further down the page, they now have a rather expansive flight network to Zagreb from all over Europe.
Ryanair will also fly four or five times a week from Dublin to Zagreb throughout winter.
As ever, Croatia Airlines will maintain a service from London Heathrow to Zagreb, flying three times a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. British Airways will also operate flights four, five or six times a week – depending on the month – from London Heathrow.
Winter Flights to Croatia from Europe
To Zagreb
It’s no surprise that Zagreb is the best-connected Croatian city when it comes to flights in winter.
As we’ve mentioned further up this page, Zagreb Airport is now a Ryanair base and so there is a fantastically long list of cities in Europe from where you can fly to Zagreb in winter. These include Dusseldorf Weeze, Frankfurt Hahn, Karlsruhe/Baden Baden and Memmingen in Germany; Milan Bergamo, Naples and Rome in Italy; Malaga and Lanzarote in Spain; and Basel, Brussels, Eindhoven, Gothenburg, Malta, Oslo, Paphos and Paris. That’s some list!
As Croatia’s national carrier, Croatia Airlines will of course also connect the country’s capital with flights to Europe this winter. They will fly from Vienna, Brussels, Mostar and Sarajevo, Copenhagen, Frankfurt and Munich, Rome (via Split/Dubrovnik), Skopje, Amsterdam and Zurich.
There are some further flight connections with other airlines too. Air Serbia will continue to maintain a service from Belgrade during winter, whilst Turkish Airlines offer flights from Istanbul. LOT will have flights from Warsaw and there will be a direct connection from Amsterdam with KLM.
Lufthansa up the already great flight schedules from Germany with flights from Frankfurt and Munich, as will Eurowings – they will operate flights from Cologne/Bonn, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart.
Wait! There are still two more connections to tell you! Alongside Croatia Airlines, Air France also fly from Paris to Zagreb whilst Austrian Airlines flies from Vienna.
Zagreb Airport
To Pula
There’s just one international connection to Pula this winter – from Zurich with Croatia Airlines.
To Rijeka
For such a small and relatively less popular airport, Rijeka is served reasonably well with flight connections this winter. As long as you want to fly from Germany, that is!
Again, it’s Croatia Airlines serving most of the winter flights to Split Airport too. They will operate flights from Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Munich, Rome and Zurich during these months.
Eurowings also gets in on the action with flights from Dusseldorf and Stuttgart. There are also some direct flights from Hamburg and Berlin in mid to late December and early January – essentially, over the festive period.
To Dubrovnik
Germany again leads the way with connections – to Dubrovnik, you can fly from Frankfurt with Croatia Airlines and from Munich with Lufthansa.
To Osijek
Even eastern Croatia gets a look in…although you may sense a similar pattern here with our next sentence! Croatia Airlines operates year-round flights from Munich to Osijek.
Winter Flights to Croatia from elsewhere in the world
It will be Zagreb you’ll be able to reach in the winter months if you travelling from certain parts of the world.
If you don’t see a suitable flight route from your home country mentioned above, there are of course other ways of getting to the country during the late autumn and winter months.
The first option would be to fly to Zagreb and then make use of Croatia Airlines‘ internal winter flights – see our Flights in Croatia page for more details.
Alternatively, you could fly to a neighbouring or nearby country to Croatia and make your way over by other methods of transport – such as ferry or bus. For example, Jadrolinija operate their Ancona – Split ferries all year round; you could fly to Rome, for example, take a train to Ancona and then a ferry over to Split.

Croatia’s main air carrier Croatia Airlines this week unveiled its winter 2023/24 timetable, which announced the introduction of one new flight route and the continuation of four presently summer-only ones. Read on below to find out where you can fly to Croatia using the airline in the winter months.
London Heathrow to Split to continue in winter
Of most interest to UK travellers is the fact that their once-a-week service from London Heathrow to Split will now continue into autumn and winter, operating until 6th January 2024.
This will be very welcome to UK travellers – or those from in and around London, at least – as all other flights to Split finish operating in late September or late October/early November. Extending the possibility to visit Dalmatia’s main city in November and December – perfect for experiencing Christmas celebrations on the Adriatic coast – will hopefully bring in more off-season visitors.
Of course, Croatia Airlines has operated flights from London Heathrow to Zagreb for years and this route will continue this winter too, operating three times a week. For more options in getting to Croatia during the winter months, flying to Zagreb means travellers can then fly on to Pula, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik airports via internal flights.
However, the airline’s Dublin to Split route will not operate this winter, despite doing so last year.
Other Croatia Airlines winter routes to continue
Similar to the above, the airline will also continue its previously summer-only service from Copenhagen to Split. This route will also continue to fly once a week, on Saturdays, until 6th January 2024.
They will also continue a service from Frankfurt to Dubrovnik, flying three times a week during the winter months on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays until 15th January 2024. This route existed during winter until it was cut during the pandemic.
One more route to be continued for winter is a route that was only (re-)introduced this summer – Mostar in Bosnia and Hercegovina to Zagreb. Flights will be operated three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
A new winter 2023/24 timetable route: Munich to Zadar
On 31st October, Croatia Airlines will launch a new route flying from Munich to Zadar in north Dalmatia. They will operate this route twice a week, flying on Tuesdays and Saturdays, until 13th January 2024.
This new route means that in the winter months, travellers will be able to fly from Munich with Croatia Airlines to five Croatian airports: Zagreb and Split, both daily; Rijeka, Osijek and Zadar, with all of these routes twice a week.
Other Croatia Airlines winter flights
Of course, Croatia Airlines already operates several year-round flights from European cities to destinations in Croatia. Understandably, the vast majority of these fly to Zagreb – aside from those mentioned above, there will be flights from Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Rome, Sarajevo, Skopje, Vienna and Zurich. All of these flights operate daily.
To Split, they will continue to fly from Frankfurt, Munich and Rome – all daily – and from Zurich twice a week.
To those wishing to reach beautiful Istria, a twice-weekly route from Zurich to Pula will help.
By all accounts, 2023 looks like it will be a bumper year for tourism in Croatia with visitor numbers for the year so far already at high levels and even more so expected for the summer. Given the travel uncertainty over the last few years because of you-know-what, flight schedules were somewhat reduced and curtailed. That’s not the case for this year at all! Here, we take a look at all the new flights to Croatia 2023, including flights from the UK and Ireland, and from all across Europe.
New Flights to Croatia 2023 – From the UK and Ireland
Having said the above, there’s not an overwhelming number of new flights from the UK and Ireland to Croatia for 2023. Looking at this fact positively, this likely means that there’s already a very good number of routes between these two countries anyway – right?!
One exciting new route – which is in fact a reinstatement of a route previously run in the mid-2010s – is Ryanair‘s from London Stansted to Osijek in Eastern Croatia. Operating twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, until 27th October, this offers travellers from London a wonderful opportunity to explore this lovely town and the fascinating region of Croatia.
TUI, meanwhile, have a new once-a-week route from Leeds Bradford to Dubrovnik, flying on Thursdays. This route will run until 19th October. In fact, this also isn’t strictly speaking a new route; these flights were switched from Doncaster Sheffield Airport to Leeds Bradford following the closure of the former. Unfortunately, the airline’s Doncaster Sheffield – Pula route does not seem to have made the same switch.
New Flights to Croatia 2023 – To Zagreb
Croatia Airlines have a new route connecting Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia’s capital. This is a great way for travellers to combine these two countries (although the airline already flies to Sarajevo year-round). You could even consider travelling the Croatian coast – from Dubrovnik and Split, say – and then making your way to visiting Mostar and then flying on to Zagreb from there.
Ryanair established a base at Zagreb Airport a couple of years ago that is going from strength to strength. One of its new routes for this year is from the Greek island of Kos to Zagreb.
New Flights to Croatia 2023 – To Pula
New routes from Italy to Croatia are always very welcome as an easy way to combine visiting these two very beautiful countries. (Although of course there are a number of other ways of travelling from Italy to Croatia!) Easyjet has a new route from Naples in southern Italy to Croatia, their only route to Croatia this year.
Ryanair has a new flight route from Dusseldorf to Pula. In addition to this, they have also established a new route from Katowice in Poland.
Perhaps not a route that many will ordinarily come across, but Swiss airline Peoples will by flying from the small airport of St Gallen-Altenrhein, on the Swiss-Austrian border, to Pula.
New Flights to Croatia 2023 – To Rijeka
Rijeka Airport is one of Croatia’s lesser-utilised airports, with only a few routes from the UK and Europe to here…despite it being a coastal airport! However, the one new route that the airport has seen introduced for 2023 is a Ryanair (them again!) route from Milan Bergamo airport.
New Flights to Croatia 2023 – To Zadar
The number of flights in operation to Zadar Airport has certainly increased over the last few years (mostly pre-pandemic!) and 2023 is no exception.
Another Ryanair base in Croatia, the airline has also introduced a good number of new routes to this north Dalmatian airport this year as well. With a very wide range of flights from Germany, the airline has also added the city of Münster as somewhere you can now fly from to Croatia.
The same airline already has flights from the Italian airports of Bologna, Milan Bergamo, Pisa, Rome and Turin; to these, they add flights from Milan Malpensa airport.
Ryanair also has a wide selection of flights from Poland, including from the cities of Gdansk, Krakow, Poznan, Warsaw and Wroclaw. In 2023, it started flying from Rzeszow as well.
Italian airline Aeroitalia has also commenced flying from Forli Airport, just south of Bologna, to Zadar.
Split
New Flights to Croatia 2023 – To Split
Croatia Airlines have introduced a couple of new routes to Croatia’s largest coastal city for this year. They now connect North Macedonia’s capital city Skopje with Split, whilst also now flying from Oslo.
SAS continue the new routes from Norway, with a new connection from Trondheim to Split.
Sunclass meanwhile have introduced flights from Stockholm.
And of course, Ryanair gets in on the action too; they have a new route from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Split.
Dubrovnik Airport
New Flights to Croatia 2023 – To Dubrovnik
It’s no surprise that Dubrovnik Airport is connected to all manner of European cities through a very expansive flight network. But there’s always room for some new flights!
This year, as well as the new flights to Zadar, Italian airline Aeroitalia have also commenced flying from Forli to Dubrovnik.
There’s been a reasonable amount of fanfare regarding the new route from Czech capital Prague to Dubrovnik with Croatia’s main carrier, Croatia Airlines.
Romanian airline Air Connect has commenced flights from the country’s capital city Bucharest to Dubrovnik.

All in all, the above-mentioned new flight routes to Croatia add to the already quite substantial flight connections the country has.
Sadly, we have not seen any new long-range connections – those from the Middle East, Asia or North America – to Croatia, but here’s hoping something new will emerge along these lines for 2024!

Travelling from the UK to Croatia in October
Negative tests NO LONGER REQUIRED for double vaccinated travellers from the UK
Latest update As of 24th October, fully vaccinated travellers returning to England from Croatia (or indeed, from anywhere else) can book a cheaper lateral flow test or a PCR test for the required day 2 test. Latest update As of 1st October, double vaccinated travellers from the UK no longer need a negative test to enter Croatia…great news! Obviously, if you are not fully vaccinated and/or cannot prove you have had covid in the previous 365 days, you do still need a negative test to enter the country. New travel rules for England from 4th October
On Monday 4th October at 4am, the travel rules for England change. The green and amber lists are being combined into one ‘safe list’ whilst the red list remains…red. Croatia is currently on the green list, so will definitely be on the new safe list from this date.
The rules for travelling back from a safe list country – including Croatia – from 4th October vary depending on whether you are fully vaccinated or not.
If you are fully vaccinated, to travel back from Croatia to England, you need:
book and pay for a day 2 PCR test (a test to get back into England is no longer required) – we recommend Randox
This is a change as, up until 4th October, non-vaccinated and vaccinated had to do a pre-departure test to return to England…and non-vaccinated travellers did not have to quarantine for 10 days.
Travelling from elsewhere to Croatia in October
As well as the major change mentioned above – that double vaccinated travellers from the UK no longer need a negative test to enter Croatia – there have been some additional rule changes as of 1st October 2021:
If you are entering Croatia using a vaccination certificate, the second dose of your vaccine (or single dose in the case of single-dose vaccines) must have been administered within the previous 365 days. (This number of days has changed – it was previously 270 days.)
If you are entering Croatia using a positive test result from a previous covid infection (at least 11 days must have passed the test result!), this is valid if the test has been taken in the previous 365 days (also previously 270 days)
There’s absolutely loads on in Croatia this month! Take a look at some of the highlights below:
Autumn is truffle season in Istria! Zigante Truffle Days actually stretches out from 18th September to 14th November 2021; this year, it’s primarily centred around Restaurant Zigante in Livade in northeastern Istria
The Zadar Street Food Festival is on now (until 3rd October) – take your pick from food stalls offering delicacies from local restaurants
The annual professional road cycling CroRace is on from 28th September to 3rd October; there are six stages taking place across the country, from Osijek in eastern Croatia to central Dalmatia, to Istria and then finishing in Zagreb on the final Sunday. Pop along if you’re in one of these regions to watch the cyclists whizzing past (or watch it on TV for lovely scenes of Croatia!).
Northern Croatian town Koprivnica hosts the Podravski Motivi / Podravina Motfis on 2nd & 3rd October, showcasing items typical from the region (such as naive art) as well as young wine and chestnuts
Dubrovnik’s Triathlon will be taking place on land and in the waters around the city on 2nd October – there will be different races for experienced triathletes as well as first-timers
In a similar(ish) vein, the 29th Zagreb Marathon will be hitting the streets of Croatia’s capital on 10th October
On the island of Krk, the Baska Outdoor Festival offers outdoor adventures for all abilities and ages over a weekend in mid-October (15th to 17th)
Held all over Croatia, Restaurant Week (Tjedan Restorana) is on from 15th to 24th October – participating restaurants (check the website!) offer menus for a special price
The Biograd Boat Show, the largest such event in Croatia, is taking place from 20th to 24th October
Weather in Croatia in October
The weather forecast is looking exceedingly lovely for the first part of October – along the coast (and the further south you go, the better your chances of warm weather) in places such as Split and Dubrovnik, you’ll find temperatures of low to mid-20s Celsius every day. There are occasional rain showers forecast, yes, but most days will see plenty of sun. The long-range forecast for October is the same. Further north up the coast temperatures will be similar if a few degrees less; inland likewise also with more mixed weather (more rain).
October is the month that straddles the seasons in Croatia – whilst the early part of the month may well be very pleasant indeed (see under “Weather” above!) the temperature slowly declines. On the coast you’ll enjoy plenty of sunshine although it will probably be a little too cold for sea swimming; hitting the pool, meanwhile, should be okay! We would certainly recommend heading to destinations in and around Split and Dubrovnik, as well as Istria, for a holiday this month. The islands, however, will be a bit on the quiet side…so we’d suggest leaving these for another trip next year.
October is traditionally the month that ‘tourist facilities’ (restaurants, bars, cafes and similar catering to visitors) start shutting up shop towards the end of the month before the cold months set in, so you’ll still be able to enjoy these.
This October is Croatian Tourism Month (unfortunately, the website appears to be in Croatian only!). Some tourist services, facilities and venues – including accommodation, restaurants and cultural attractions – across the country are offering discounts of 35% off.
Do be aware that ferry/catamaran schedules (i.e. Jadrolinija‘s) change from high season to low season ones in early October, so take this into account if you’re planning on travelling around. Bus schedules will also see fewer buses on long-distance routes, but you’ll still have plenty of choice.
The Plitvice Lakes in autumn
October is a great month to make the most of some of Croatia’s top experiences – without all the summer crowds – particularly with the country taking on an autumnal hue. If you’re able to do, we’d certainly recommend a trip to one of Croatia’s national or nature parks, such as Plitvice or Krka.
Zagreb is an excellent choice for Croatia in October – there’s plenty to explore (sights, restaurants, experiences, even shopping) and it’s a very easy city to navigate.

Of interest to our British readers, today saw the start of the Ryanair London Stansted – Zagreb route; this route operates four times a week from today before switching to daily flights from 1st September.
However, today has also brought more good news for travellers to Croatia. A further eight new Ryanair to Zagreb routes have been announced which are all due to start operating in December.
Two of these routes will certainly be of interest to British and Irish travellers, as there are to be flights from Manchester and Dublin starting in the last month of the year.
Another new UK Ryanair to Zagreb route
Ryanair is due to commence a route from Manchester to Zagreb on 2nd December, flying twice a week – on Thursdays and Sundays.
Tickets are already on sale for these flights, currently priced from £17.99 one way.
Dublin to Zagreb starts on 2nd December
The new Dublin to Zagreb route will also start on 2nd December, with three flights per week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Tickets are currently priced from €19.99 one way.

Announced at a press conference today, 12 new Ryanair routes to Zagreb Airport (from 8 different countries) are to be launch later this year.
These include a new daily service from London Stansted to Zagreb. Other Ryanair routes to Zagreb Airport to commence later this year are flights from Brussels in Belgium; Paris Beauvais in France; Milan Bergamo and Rome Ciampino in Italy; Dortmund, Frankfurt Hahn, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Memmingen in Germany; Podgorica in Montenegro; Oslo in Norway; and Gothenburg in Sweden.
Ryanair will base 4 aeroplanes in Zagreb, and once all routes are up and running they will operate 36 flights per week across these 12 lines.

A new UK to Zagreb route for 2021
Perhaps most interestingly to a UK-based travel website on Croatia (!), the airline will launch a daily service from London Stansted to Zagreb Airport from 1st September 2021. Tickets for this route are currently priced at £33.99 one-way.
Latest Update The London Stansted – Zagreb route will now start on 23rd July, flying four times a week, and then daily from 1st September.
First Ryanair routes to Zagreb will start in June and July
Of the other destinations mentioned above, the first route to go into operation will be Brussels – Zagreb, commencing on 2nd June. This route will initially operate twice-weekly (Wednesdays and Sundays), then three times a week (Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays) from 1st September.
Milan Bergamo – Zagreb will then start on 1st July 17th June, flying four times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays).
Ryanair routes to Zagreb from Germany to start in September
The Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden – Zagreb route will operate three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) from 2nd September.

Gothenburg Landvetter – Zagreb flights start on 3rd September, and will fly three times a week (Mondays, Fridays and Sundays).

Here, we’ll bring together the latest information – updated regularly – about visiting Croatia in summer 2021, with flight and holiday news, travel and local restrictions (and the lifting of these) and more.
Travel Restrictions in Summer 2021
There are two parts to this story – restrictions on foreign travel by your own country, and restrictions in place for Croatia.
For example, as it stands for the UK, holidays abroad should be allowed from 17th May. (See Covid: When can I go on holiday in the UK or travel abroad?, BBC News, 23rd February 2021) But it is unknown at the moment what and if any kind of quarantine will be required when returning to the UK.
Latest update The UK’s green and amber lists have been combined into one “safe list” as of 4am on Monday 4th October. Croatia is on this safe list, meaning fully vaccinated travellers do not need a test to re-enter the UK and do not need to self-quarantine for 10 days. Updated The latest UK travel update on 26th August saw Croatia remain on the green list, which is great news! Do note, however, that neighbouring Montenegro is on the red list from 4am, Monday 30th August – if you travel to Montenegro and then return to the UK you will need to enter paid hotel quarantine for 10 days.
Updated Announced on 14th July and coming into effect at 4am on 19th July, Croatia has been be placed on England’s travel green list! This means that all travellers returning from Croatia to England do not need to quarantine for 10 days.
Updated From 19th July, fully vaccinated travellers from England (and children under 18 years of age) will not need to quarantine when returning from amber list countries, which Croatia still is. However, covid tests before and after returning to England will be required.

Updated As it stands on 8th June, Croatia remains on the UK amber travel list. There appears to be little movement week by week with new countries making it on to the green list.
Updated The UK is indeed allowing people to travel abroad for holidays from 17th May. The UK has also announced which countries are on its green light travel list…and Croatia is not presently one of them. That means that anyone travelling to Croatia for a holiday would need to self-isolate for 10 days at home on their return. (It is possible to “test to release” on day 5 of your return.)
Updated The UK is now suggesting that people can think about booking summer holidays. The earliest date that people could travel abroad is the 17th May. There is to be a traffic light system with countries designed as green, amber and red; the different colours indicate what UK travellers will need to do (not isolate, isolate at home, or isolate in a hotel) upon returning home. The first list of countries and the ‘traffic light’ that they will be is to be announced on 10th May.
Border Entry Regulations for Croatia
New regulations on entering Croatia were introduced as of 1st April.
LATEST UPDATEVisiting Croatia as a traveller from the UK, Cyprus, Russia or India
In effect from 26th July, ALL travellers (even if they are double-vaccinated) from these four countries must present proof of a negative PCR test taken in the previous 72 hours before entry into Croatia, or a negative rapid antigen test taken in the previous 48 hours before entry. This is due to the worsening epidemiological situation in those countries. As of 1st October, this is no longer valid. Please see Double vaccinated UK travellers to Croatia no longer need a negative test.
Additionally, as of 1st July, EU citizens/those travelling from the EU can enter Croatia with an EU Digital Covid Certificate.
For EU/EEA nationals and non-EU nationals if they are travelling from the EU/EEA who do not have an EU Digital Covid Certificate yet AND for third-country nationals, you must have one of the following:
a negative PCR test undertaken in theprevious 72 hours or a rapid antigen test undertaken in the previous 48 hours(at the point of entry); if you are using a rapid antigen test, it must be one recognised by the EU, and the test name and manufacturer must be visible, and the test must be conducted by a healthcare facility/laboratory and signed or confirmed by a doctor
a vaccination certificate not older than 365 days showing you have received the second dose of a vaccine more than 14 days before entry into Croatia (or a vaccination certificate not older than 365 days showing you have received a single dose – in the case of single-dose vaccines – more than 14 days before entry into Croatia)
a certificate showing you have recovered from covid AND you have had one dose of a covid vaccine in the eight months since recovering; your vaccine dose must have been administered in the previous 12 months before arrival in Croatia
a certificate showing you have previously been infected with covid and had a positive PCR or rapid antigen test result in the previous 365 days only (and valid from on the 11th day after your positive test result)
if you are travelling from the EU, a vaccination certificate showing you have received the first dose of the Pfizer, Moderna or Gamaleya vaccine, on the basis of which you can enter Croatia in the period of 22 to 42 days from receiving the vaccine, or 22 to 84 days from receiving the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine
if you don’t have one of the above, you must obtain a PCR or rapid antigen test immediately after arriving in Croatia (at your own expense) and to isolate until you obtain a negative test result – if do not do this, you must isolate for 10 days
Children under the age of 12 who are travelling accompanied by a parent or guardian are exempt from having to provide a negative test result (or to self isolate) providing their parent or guardian adheres to above entry regulations
Third-country nationals (which UK citizens now are!) can visit if you are:
travelling for tourist reasons and have confirmation of a paid accommodation booking in a hotel, camp, private renter or rented vessel and other forms of tourist accommodation
HOWEVER, please note that this paid accommodation booking proof requirement now no longer exists for travellers from the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Heregovina, Brunei, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Macao, Montenegro, Moldova, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Qatar, Saudia Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine, USA
Travellers from South Africa and Zanzibar (Tanzania) must show proof of a negative PCR test undertaken in the previous 48 hours AND must also isolate for 14 days upon arrival in Croatia. (The isolation period can be shortened if a PCR test – at your own expense – is taken on day 7 at an authorised testing facility.)
As of 1st October, travellers from Brazil no longer need to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Croatia. However, ALL travellers – regardless of vaccination status – from Brazil need to show a negative PCR test (taken in the previous 72 hours) or a negative rapid antigen test (taken in the previous 48 hours) to enter Croatia.
Updated A meeting between the Croatian Minister of Tourism and Sports, Nikolina Brnjac, and the British Ambassador to Croatia, Andrew Dalgleish, saw Ms Brnjac state that Croatia “would be ready to receive tourists from the UK as soon as epidemiological rules in their home country allow it”. (See: When can I visit Croatia? Latest news as the country promises to welcome Britons by May, Daily Telegraph, 19th March 2021) This would suggest UK citizens could visit Croatia from 17th May.
Will any kind of ‘vaccination passport’ be in place for Croatia? There has not been any firm confirmation on this either way, but it is thought that Croatia is reluctant to introduce this. (Again, to encourage holidaymakers to visit.)
Updated The EU – of which Croatia is, of course, a member – looks set to introduce digital travel certificates for its citizens this summer. The UK is still considering whether or not to do the same.

Covid Test Centres in Croatia
Should you need to obtain a PCR or rapid antigen test when in Croatia, you can see a list of test centres on the Koronavirus website. This website details the locations of test centres all over the country, including in towns and cities such as Zagreb, Split, Zadar, Pula, Rovinj and Dubrovnik. The page also shows how to book these test and how much they cost.
The KoronaTestiranje website shows a map of testing centres all over Croatia, along with contact and booking details and prices.
Flights to Croatia Summer 2021
The vast majority of flights from the UK & Ireland to Croatia that usually operate each year are planned to do so again for summer 2021. The start of the operating timetable for some routes has been pushed back – e.g. instead of flights starting at the end of March/early April, they will do so in May/June. This is to be expected, really, as foreign travel in spring and Easter time – normally a popular time of year to go away – is not yet permitted. (Foreign travel from the UK is expected to be allowed from 17th May.)

UpdatedDelta has also announced a brand transatlantic route for summer 2021, from New York-JFK Airport to Dubrovnik. The route will start on 2nd July, operating four times a week (on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays). With United’s flights below, this now means Dubrovnik will be connected to New York with 7 flights a week this summer!
UpdatedUnited has announced a brand new transatlantic route for summer 2021, from New York-Newark Airport direct to Dubrovnik. Flights will commence on 8th July, operating three times a week (on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays) until 3rd October.
UpdatedRyanair has announced new routes for summer 2021 – from Liverpool, Newcastle and Edinburgh to Zadar. (They will also have a new, daily route from London Stansted to Zagreb from 1st September.)
For flights from further afield…there’s bad news, unfortunately. Although more and more transcontinental routes direct to Croatia – from the Middle East, Asia and North America – emerged, pre-pandemic, the majority have been cancelled for 2021. We hope to see them resume in future.
Croatia Travel Updates
Here is some information related to travelling to or in Croatia that visitors may find helpful for summer 2021.
UpdatedJadrolinija will continue to operate its popular coastal catamaran (Split – Bol – Hvar – Korcula – Dubrovnik) until 20th September 2021.
UpdatedKapetan Luka is the new operator of the Pula – Unije – Susak – Mali Losinj – Ilovik – Silba – Zadar line (taking over from Catamaran Line).

Updated Croatia is to subsidise (by 50%) the cost of covid tests for tourists and those who need to get tested once in the country. Additionally, in Zagreb, special testing centres have been set up for visitors – you can find more info on the Zagreb Tourist Board website.
Updated Jadrolinija has announced that passengers can make changes to their tickets on international sailings (Ancona – Zadar, Ancona – Split and Bari – Dubrovnik) for free up to one day before the sailing date. Tickets can be rebooked onto another sailing within the next 12 months.
Updated Jadrolinija has also announced that those who purchase tickets on certain car ferry lines now WILL have a guaranteed reservation at a particular time – even in summer. (Previously, a ticket did not guarantee a sailing time on the date booked, and travellers still needed to queue up at the port several hours beforehand.) You can see the full list of lines this applies to on Jadrolinija’s website; in summer, you do still need to be at the port 60 minutes prior to departure.
Booking Holidays to Croatia for Summer 2021
Many tour operators and holiday companies seem to be operating “full steam ahead” when it comes to selling holidays for summer 2021 – for Croatia, and elsewhere! That’s understandable from their perspective, but we would always advise making sure you have comprehensive travel insurance in place should you need to re-arrange or cancel your holiday. (Either due to illness or due to changes in rules on travelling.)
Travelling to Neighbouring Countries from Croatia
Please check the entry requirements of countries such as Bosnia & Hercegovina or Montenegro if you plan on making day trips (or longer stays) into them from Croatia. Do note, however, that as of 4am on 30th August 2021, Montenegro is on the UK’s red list.

Here we are at the end of March already – a time when quite a few airlines start their regular ‘summer’ flights to Croatia! A great opportunity to look and see what new flights to Croatia – and other changes – there are for 2019.
New flights from Ireland to Croatia
There’s some excellent news for our Irish friends with plans to visit Croatia this year. Ryanair have two new routes this year – from Dublin to Split and Dubrovnik. Both routes will operate four times a week (on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays to Split; and on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays to Dubrovnik) from the beginning of June through to the end of October.
Aer Lingus continue to fly the above two routes as well, but have also introduced a new one for 2019. They will fly from Cork to Dubrovnik twice a week (Tuesdays and Saturdays) from 11th to 28th September.
London to Zadar with Easyjet
Zadar is a stunning town, so it’s great news that there’s more and more flights to this Dalmatian airport each year! Easyjet have flown from London Luton to Zadar for a couple of years and will now also fly to Zadar from London Gatwick. Flights will operate twice a week (Tuesdays and Saturdays) from 30th April to the 26th October.
Another London airport for flights to Split
London is of course spoilt for choice when it comes to flights to Croatia – with plenty of flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted.
But British Airways will now add another airport into this mix – London City Airport. Flights from here will operate three times a week (on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays) from 21st June to 6th September.
British Airways have also increased frequency of flights from London Heathrow to Split – in peak summer (from 20th May onwards), the airline now has seven flights a week on this route. (Daily apart from Saturdays, with two flights on Sundays.)
New flights to Rijeka with TUI
01/04/19 Note: We’ve been informed that TUI have cancelled their Manchester to Rijeka route – before they’ve even started operating it! They will now NOT fly from Manchester to Rijeka this year. See changes below.
TUI have introduced two one new route for 2019 to an airport in Croatia they have never serviced before, Rijeka.
They will fly from London Gatwick and Manchester to Rijeka once a week (Thursdays) from 23rd May to 10th October.
But TUI don’t just stop there in terms of new flights! There’s also good news for Welsh visitors to Croatia – for the first time, there is now a direct flight from Cardiff Airport to Dubrovnik (operates on Thursdays from 2nd May to 31st October).
And the airline also have two more new routes – from Doncaster Sheffield to Pula (operates on Saturdays from 4th May to 5th October) and from Leeds Bradford to Dubrovnik (operates on Thursdays from 2nd May to 31st October).
However, there’s one route that TUI have dropped for 2019 – they are no longer operating flights from Newcastle to Dubrovnik.
Flybe no longer fly to Croatia
Flybe have dropped all of their flights from the UK to Croatia. They used to fly from London Southend to Zadar and Dubrovnik.
More flights per week with Jet2.com
There’s no new flights with Jet2.com this year. (The airline has introduced a number of new routes to Croatia in the last couple of years, so we’ll forgive them!) They are, however, increasing frequency on some of their existing routes. There will be three flights a week in peak season (15th July to 22nd September) from London Stansted to Split, and five flights a week in peak season (27th May to 22nd September) from London Stansted to Dubrovnik.
However, they have reduced frequency on their East Midlands to Split and Edinburgh to Split routes for 2019 – both will only fly once a week this year.
New flights from America to Croatia, too!
Although this post largely covers new flights from the UK and Ireland to Croatia, we couldn’t help but also mention a new route from America to Croatia as well! (Mainly because it’s the first route directly connecting the U.S. and Croatia in decades!)
American Airlines will fly from Philadelphia to Dubrovnik three times a week (on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays) from 7th June to 21st September. Flight time will be nine hours and 15 minutes.

We’re pleased to say that there have been many, many direct flights from the UK and Ireland to Croatia for years…but that doesn’t stop new routes being announced all the time! Here we check out new flights to Croatia in 2017 to make planning your trip that little bit easier.
New Easyjet flights to Zadar, Dubrovnik and Pula
Despite already having a very strong presence in the country, Easyjet announced a handful of new routes to Croatia for 2017. For the first time, they will fly to Zadar – flights from London Luton will start on 27th May (to 30th September) and operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
They’ve flown to Dubrovnik for a number of years, but this year they will also operate flights from Manchester and Belfast Airports. From Manchester, they will fly twice weekly (Wednesdays and Saturdays) from 22nd July, whilst from Belfast it’s also twice-weekly (Tuesdays and Sundays) from 14th May.
Bristol Airport – already connected to Dubrovnik and Split – will now also see flights to Pula with Easyjet this year. This route will start on 27th May (to 30th September) and only operate once a week, on Saturdays.
Unfortunately, Easyjet have dropped their Newcastle – Split route
New Ryanair flights from Bristol and Glasgow to Zadar
Zadar is very firmly Ryanair‘s base in Croatia and to their long-established routes from London Stansted, Manchester and Dublin, they will also start flying from Bristol and Glasgow. Bristol – Zadar has already started for the season (to 28th October 2017), flying on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Glasgow – Zadar will also fly twice a week (Mondays and Fridays) but only in peak season – this route starts on 3rd July to 28th August.
Ryanair have dropped their London Stansted to Osijek route in 2017, meaning Osijek is no longer connected to the UK.
Jet2.com new flights from London Stansted to Pula, Split and Dubrovnik
London is of course very well connected to almost all of Croatia’s airports, but a few more flights just adds to the choice available to travellers! Jet2.com will fly from London Stansted to Pula from 24th April (Sunday initially; Wednesdays and Sundays from 1st May); to Split from 26th June (Sunday initially; Wednesdays and Sundays from 3rd July); and to Dubrovnik from 24th April (initially Saturdays only; Tuesdays and Saturdays from 1st May; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 22nd May).
Jet2.com will also start flying from East Midlands Airport to Split from 24th April to 1st October 2017 (once a week, on Sundays) and from Glasgow to Dubrovnik from 24th April to 22nd October 2017 (on Sundays).
New Monarch flights to Zagreb
Croatia’s coastal airports see new routes introduced all the time…so it’s very pleasing to see that capital city Zagreb will also get some new connections this year! From the 28th April, Monarch will fly thrice-weekly from London Gatwick (on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) and twice weekly from Manchester (on Mondays and Saturdays) to Zagreb. The latter route is certainly very welcome as it is the first non-London connection to Zagreb for quite some time. It was also recently announced that these routes will operate year-round – very pleasing to hear.
British Airways to fly to Pula in 2017
There aren’t many flights from London Heathrow to Croatia, but British Airways is seemingly doing its best to change that! Already flying to both Zagreb and Split from that airport, they will also fly from London Heathrow to Pula in 2017 – twice a week (Tuesdays and Saturdays) from 1st July to 30th September.
Aer Lingus introduce a Dublin to Split route
Already operating flights to Pula and Dubrovnik, Aer Lingus will now fly from Dublin to the central Dalmatian city of Split in 2017. From 27th May to 28th October, they will fly twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Other flight news
Norwegian appear to have dropped their Gatwick – Pula route for 2017, although will still fly to Split and Dubrovnik.
Thomson have dropped their Newcastle – Dubrovnik route.
Croatia Airlines have sold some of their London Heathrow slots; however, they are currently leasing some of these slots back so for the time being, continue to fly to Zagreb eight times a week.

We’re sure that many of you will be travelling from Split to Dubrovnik (or Dubrovnik to Split) this summer, so we thought we’d lay out the various options for getting between the two!
Split to Dubrovnik by Catamaran
Kapetan Luka have a daily catamaran operating in both directions from Split to Dubrovnik. The catamaran operates in the early morning from Split to Dubrovnik – stopping at Milna on Brac, Hvar Town, Korcula Town and Mljet – whilst the opposite journey operates in the late afternoon/early evening. Journey time between Split and Dubrovnik is 4 hours 15 minutes.
You can of course also split up the journey en route to either Dubrovnik or Split e.g. Dubrovnik to Korcula and then stay there for a night or two.
You can book tickets online on the Kapetan Luka website or using the search box below – during peak season, this would be advisable.
The catamaran does also operate in October, although only three times a week.
2017 Update:Kapetan Luka have a new daily catamaran operating between Split and Dubrovnik. This one stops at Bol on the island of Brac, Makarska, Korcula and Sobra on the island of Mljet when travelling between the two cities. Journey time between Split and Dubrovnik is 4 hours 30 minutes, and the sailing is also in the early morning from Split, with the reverse in the mid afternoon.
Jadrolinija also now have a catamaran connecting Dubrovnik and Split. Operating daily from early June to mid September, their catamaran stops at Bol on Brac, Hvar Town and Korcula Town en route. Sailing time between Split and Dubrovnik is 5 hours and 15 minutes. This catamaran sails from Split in the mid afternoon (reaching Dubrovnik at 9pm), and sails from Dubrovnik in the early morning (reaching Split at 12.30pm).
Split to Dubrovnik by Ferry
Jadrolinija used to run – for absolutely years and years – a coastal ferry service that stretched from Rijeka in the north down to Split and Dubrovnik, stopping off at a couple of the islands along the way (Hvar and Korcula). For 2015, this route has been cancelled – so there are no car ferry options between Split and Dubrovnik. 2017 Update: Details of this service being restarted in 2017 was released – however, by the summer, this has failed to materialise.
There is a year-round Jadrolinija car ferry that operates from Split to Vela Luka on the island of Korcula. As an alternative to the above ferry, you could utilise this – perhaps staying on Korcula for a bit! – before then taking a ferry from Korcula to Orebic on the mainland, and then driving down to Dubrovnik. (It’s a bit of a different alternative, admittedly!)
Split to Dubrovnik by Bus
Luckily, these two Croatian coastal gems are connected numerous buses that run daily. Journey time is around 4 and a half hours – although do note that in peak season (July and August), you may be delayed by an hour of more if the coastal road is especially busy with holiday traffic.
The route stretches through a portion of Bosnia & Hercegovina (called the Neum corridor), so do keep your passport on your person/in your hand luggage and not in the suitcase you’ve put in the hold!
This is a transit route through Bosnia & Hercegovina, so you won’t need a visa for the country (if you otherwise would – EU/US/Canadian/Australian nationals don’t).
Neum
Buses normally use Neum as a comfort break – a chance to stop for the loo, stretch your legs and to snap a few pics of ‘you in Bosnia’. Luckily, it’s a pretty nice view! There’s also a shop there if you fancy stocking up on ‘duty free’ (booze and cigarettes) and a few little knick knacks; snack options are a little thin on the ground unless you like biscuits, crisps and soft drinks/water.
Check schedules for the route – whether for Split to Dubrovnik or Dubrovnik to Split on the Split Bus Terminal website. The Dubrovnik Bus Terminal also displays this information, but it’s not quite as user friendly.
Split to Dubrovnik by Air
Trade Air have a few flights a week in each direction between Split and Dubrovnik; flight time is 40 minutes.
If you’re driving between Split and Dubrovnik, there are two road options – either the scenic coastal road for the whole route, or inland on the A1 motorway as far as Ploce – where the motorway ends – and where you need to then towards the coastal road to continue the journey.
Which one you take is up to you in terms of whether you’re under time pressure or not. The coastal road is beautiful of course – but it can be very busy during the summer months!
Split to Dubrovnik Private Transfer
Visit Croatia Recommends A popular transport option for travel between Split and Dubrovnik is a private transfer. This door to door car service makes for easy and comfortable travel between these two cities. In addition, you can choose your pickup time and whether you’d like to modify the trip to include stops along the way, making the transfer into an excursion. Split to Dubrovnik by Train
This one’s a no go! Dubrovnik has no train station, for starters…and train services up and down the Croatian coast don’t really exist. But you’ve luckily got plenty of other transport options – as detailed above!
