Who we are

We are an independent travel information website called Visit Croatia. Our website address is https://www.visit-croatia.co.uk.

What personal data is collected via this site and why

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. The “help” feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser’s cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.

Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

  • IP Address
  • Operating System type
  • Operating System version
  • Device Type
  • Language of the website
  • Web browser type
  • Email (in hashed form)

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit National Advertising Initiative opt out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance’s AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.

For specific information about Mediavine Partners, the data each collects and their data collection and privacy policies, please visit Mediavine Partners.

Comments

Visit Croatia uses the Disqus comment system to allow our website visitors to leave comments and ask questions, and for us (and others) to respond to these questions, comments and discussions.

You can read more at Disqus’s Privacy Policy and in their Support section for details on what information they hold on users.

Email and IP addresses of users are collected strictly for moderation purposes (in almost all cases, to help with moderating and deleting spam comments and banning spammers). Visit Croatia does not otherwise process or share this data in any way.

Member forums

Visit Croatia runs two forums – the Visit Croatia Forum and the Croats in the UK Forum. Both of these forums use the ProBoards forum hosting service. You can read the ProBoards’ Privacy Policy here.

IP addresses of users on the forums are logged purely for moderation purposes (to help combat spam, in particular).

If you are already a member of one of our forums, you may wish to check your user profile to make sure all information displayed there is something you would like to share (or not) with others. If you need any help with changing the settings on your account or would like assistance in deleting your account, please email us.

Visit Croatia does not use or share forum members’ user data in any way.

Cookies

Visit Croatia uses cookies to personalise content, ads and to analyse traffic. We also share information about your use of our site with our advertising and analytics partners who may combine it with other information that you have provided to them or that they have collected from your use of their services.

We use cookies on this website to provide you with a better user experience. We do this by placing a small text file on your device/computer to track how you use the website, to record or log whether you have seen particular messages that we display, to display relevant adverts or content, referred you to a third-party website.

Some cookies are required to enjoy and use the full functionality of this website. You may, of course, control your use of cookies on this site via your web browser.

You can find out more about cookies used on this website and how to control the use of cookies on our Cookie Policy page.

Our website contains adverts and sponsored and affiliate links on some pages. These are typically served through our advertising partners; Google Adsense, Amazon Affiliates, Booking.com, Viator or are self-served through our own means. We only use trusted advertising partners who have high standards of user privacy and security. However, we do not control the actual adverts seen/displayed by the majority of our advertising partners. Our ad partners may collect data and use cookies for ad personalisation and measurement. Where ad preferences are requested as ‘non-personalised’ cookies may still be used for frequency capping, aggregated ad reporting and to combat fraud and abuse.

Clickable sponsored or affiliate links may be displayed as a website URL e.g. www.booking.com or a titled text link e.g. Accommodation. However, not all links displayed on this website are sponsored or affiliate links.

Clicking on any adverts, sponsored or affiliate links may track your actions by using a cookie saved to your device. You can read more about cookies on the Visit Croatia website above. Your actions are usually recorded as a referral from our website by this cookie. In most cases, we earn a small commission from the advertiser or advertising partner, at no cost to you, whether you make a purchase on their website or not.

We use advertising partners in these ways to help generate income from the website, which allows us to continue our work and provide you with valued information and the best overall experience.

Learn more about each third-party’s privacy policy and how they used your data:

If you have any concerns about this we suggest you do not click on any adverts, or sponsored or affiliate links found throughout the website.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc, such as Instagram photos). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Visit Croatia uses Google Analytics to collect analytics data. Data associated with cookies, user identifiers, or advertising identifiers is stored by Google Analytics for 26 months, after which time it is deleted. You may wish to learn more about Google’s Privacy & Terms which covers how they use the data obtained from websites such as ours.

Who we share your data with

Aside from any data obtained with our commenting system or our analytics partner mentioned above, we do not share your data with any third party (see below).
