It's exceptionally hard trying to construct a list of the best destinations in Croatia - there's plenty of wonderful destinations for a holiday, which means its hard to choose. The following list isn't really a proper chart - many of the following destinations are on par - though we would probably always consider Dubrovnik at number one.

1. Dubrovnik
The "pearl of the Adriatic", Dubrovnik is understandably one of Croatia's most popular destinations.
2. Plitvice Lakes
Croatia has a number of National Parks, but Plitvice Lakes is it's number one - a real gem.
3. Istria
A long association with Italy gives this region in Croatian a strong Italian feel; explore the lovely sea-side towns and inland villages.
4. Zagreb
Croatia's capital, it's buzzing with museums, galleries, bars and clubs.
5. Hvar Town, island of Hvar
Officially Croatia's sunniest island, and certainly the one most filled with the fragrance of lavender, Hvar Town is where the jet-set go.
6. Makarska Riviera
A collection of resorts that are well known for its beaches, and very popular with families.
7. Island of Brac
Home to one of Croatia's most stunning images, Zlatni Rat beach in the resort of Bol.
8. Korcula Town, island of Korcula
A mini-Dubrovnik because of its Old Town, Korcula Town is great for exploring.
9. Island of Vis
Only open to tourism in 1989, Vis is one of the less touristy of the larger islands - where those "in the know" go to!
10. Elafiti islands
A wonderfully tranquil small set of islands near Dubrovnik, perfect for getting away from it all. |
