Latest Love International Line up Reveal

Perhaps most exciting of all is the news of the debut of some incredible DJ sets. First up, Four Tet is quite simply one of the world’s finest electronic musicians, spanning pure formed dance music to the scintillating eclectic strands which surround it. Likewise, fellow aural experimentalist Floating Points also transcends genre, weaving through jazz, classical, soul and broken-beat influences into house and techno, a cerebral sound scientist who enervates, educates and entertains in equal measure. Hunee, one of 2017’s most in-demand DJs, segues through delectable disco and soulful to jackin’ house excursions, infused with fizzing energy and the mark of crate-digging endeavour. And Bicep know a bit about crate-digging, too; the mercurial duo are widely regarded as two of the finest DJs and producers of the electronic era.

But there’s plenty more exciting line up news besides! Love International regular Midland lights up the festival each and every time he appears. Three of the finest exponents of house and disco, Gerd Janson, Young Marco and Horse Meat Disco will be in Tisno this summer, with each really epitomising the sunshine energy of the festival. Life and Death founder and Love International debutant DJ Tennis is next, the Italian icon working with Tale of Us and Mind Against and he is an esteemed label A+R, producer and DJ. Then Palms Trax makes a very welcome return after last summer’s scintillating boat party, the Berlin-based artist a regular at Panorama Bar, Concrete and De School. And fellow Berliner Call Super is another outstanding young DJ and producer, linking together cultured house and techno.

Crazy P Soundsystem are perennial fixtures at the festival and bring a lovely touch of gravitas and warmth; occasional regulars Paranoid London check in with a DJ set; and revered Dutch selector Job Jobse played Trouw’s last ever set, a huge honour bestowed on the feel-good young spinner bringing hands-in-the-air energy to the Adriatic. Two inspired duos also touch down – disco deviants Rub and Tug weave across Italo to acid via post-funk rarities, and Electric Chair’s The Unabombers, much-loved and long-seasoned Tisno heads, return to Love International.

The festival’s co-founder, Tom Paine, explains:

“We are feeling really happy with the lineup for 2018 which features many brilliant debuts and some very welcome friends and family returning. Our third year is going to be very special indeed for everyone and we can’t wait for the summer!”

The latest wave of artists further illuminates the festival’s broad musical scope and takes in an even wider range of sounds and styles, from sunshine reggae and seductive soul to rare funk, cosmic disco and all-out 4/4. This includes everyone from the genre-skipping Artwork to San Fran disco artisans Honey Soundsystem, from electronica’s creative force Moscoman to esteemed Italo exponent Intergalactic Gary, from Space Dimension Controller’s vast musical tastes to the Secretsundaze’s crew and their acclaimed house and techno-inspired events, and from Moxie’s eclectic vision on NTS, Marvin and Guy’s genre-defying 70s and 80s party sets and the truly unique Rebolledo.

Further highlights include techno-rock hybrid Zombies in Miami, the legendary founder of the hugely influential Robert Johnson club, Ata, and intoxicating boogie, pop, house and disco from Francis Inferno Orchestra. Berlin’s Wilde Renate resident Paramida has shaken up the city with her DJ sets and revered label, Love on The Rocks, whilst there’s a very welcome return from Tisno perennials, PBR Streetgang, having just release their debut album, and genre-bending Rinse FM star Josey Rebelle brings house, techno, boogie and much more. Then Heidi Lawden’s Magic Roundabout radio show reflects her taste-making and genre-skipping delight, Panorama Bar’s resident Roi Perez also weaves across many styles, Metro Area’s deep disco king Darshan Jesrani returns to Croatia and Ray Mang performs a rare set away from his always estimable studio work.

Love International 2018

Love International 2018 – first wave of acts to appear revealed!

Although they only started their party in Tisno a few years ago, the Love International festival has already become one of the most popular in Croatia. And the good news is – they’re returning in 2018 for their third edition!

Love International 2018

Taking place from Wednesday 27th June to Wednesday 4th July 2018, this eight day festival kicks the season off at the idyllic site of The Garden Tisno. Love International will once again create an incredible odyssey for 2,500 festival-goers under the sun and stars in this wonderful setting on the Adriatic coast.

There’s the glorious waterside Beach Bar; the stunning shaded Olive Grove and the larger Main Stage right at the centre of the site. Attendees will also have the incredible boat parties to enjoy; the intimate Terraza; the Secret Island Party and of course the incredible fully-open air club Barbarella’s. And not forgetting the site’s own private beach! Should that not be enough (unlikely!), the pretty town of Tisno itself also features lots of great food and drink in a wide variety of restaurants and bars, along with plenty of accommodation options too.

In only two years, Love International has built up a strong following of fans who travel from around the world to attend. That’s no doubt in part of the festival’s concept of a holiday and a festival blended together so seamlessly. It’s truly no wonder that the festival has become so popular so quickly.

Love International 2018 Line-Up Details

The first wave of acts appearing in 2018 has already been announced. The Love International team have revealed an inspired selection who are all are the fore of their respective fields, from headline names through to the next wave of genuinely exciting DJs and producers.

First up is Roman Flugel, who weaves across many styles from ambient, house, techno, electro and leftfield, whilst the sublime crate digger Move D continues to explore and challenge the boundaries of electronic music. And speaking of genre-skipping talent, Joy Orbison‘s bouncing garage-house has been celebrated for blending elements of house, two-step, jungle, techno and dubstep has kept him right at the fore of club culture.

Further debuts include Avalon Emerson’s techno and house filtered through the futurism of Detroit techno; and fellow female icon Octo Octa’s melody and vocal-inspired house music, woven with 90s nostalgia and Balearic joy, brings her to the region for the first time. The Idjut Boys have plenty of their own too, with 20 years of throwing parties and DJing around the world between them, and two further acclaimed names also feature; Jane Fitz’s enduring dedication to her craft has seen her wide-ranging sets become the stuff of legend, and newcomer Powder’s music is a blend of rich melodies and dance floor delight.

Love International also features some friends returning, for some now an annual pilgrimage to the coast; Hessle Audio’s Ben UFO is pretty much first on the list, as is Fabric’s iconic Craig Richards – the pair are now further revered for their all night back-to-back sets at Barbararella’s. Glaswegian duo Optimo fuse techno, electro, rock and leftfield, whilst Prosumer is a Tisno face and regular, a disco ambassador of immense stature. Felix Dickinson has been an instrumental part of the UK’s underground dance scene for the last 3 decades whose relevance continues to evolve, and Daniele Baldelli offers a different pace with his chuggy cosmic disco sets. Shanti Celeste has released on Future Times, Idle Hands and Secretsundaze, acclaimed vinyl archivist and musical curator Gideön has many years of experience to offer Love International, whilst whilst Saoirse’s continued rise to prominence stems from her tireless work ethic both in clubs and behind the scenes. Finally, Futureboogie’s Christophe and Dave Harvey – also one of Love International’s co-founders – complete the first wave of names.

The festival’s co-founder, Tom Paine, explains:

“We believe we are attracting like-minded people to the festival – that’s the essence of what we want to create here. It’s developing a sense of community which everyone brings with them, and that feeling really comes through during the entire week.  We are again working with DJs and live performers who understand this too; many of them stay for as long as they can before and after they play. We are very proud to be bringing in some debut names to Tisno, as well as our old friends returning, and the first wave of names we feel is a great marker for how the complete billing will be looking early next year. At Love International we are honing our philosophy even further – it’s not always about the biggest DJs and artists, for us it’s about having the best, whether right at the top of their game or part of the next taste-making generation. We can’t wait to have them over in Tisno do to their thing!”

A new festival for Croatia in 2017 – Beats, Beer and Boogaloo!

There’s a brand new festival in Croatia for 2017, and one with an exciting twist! The very intriguingly named Beats Beer and Boogaloo will take place at the epic Garden Tisno from Thursday 13th to Monday 17th July and just this week they have announced the first wave of artists that will be appearing at the event.

Craig Charles’ Funk and Soul Club and Nick and Charlotte Colgan from The Garden Festival and The Garden Brewery have teamed up to establish this unique festival on the Dalmatian coast. As well as live artists and DJs providing a funked-up soundtrack, a whole host of craft beers from around the world will be available to enjoy.

Also on the bill is the Craig Charles Fantasy Funk Band (plus special guest) which was created when Craig asked his show’s listeners who would be in their favourite funk band; since 2007 the band’s various members have performed at festivals around the world. Detroit-based Amp Fiddler is a celebrated soul/funk musician who has shared stages and studios with everyone from Prince and George Clinton to Primal Scream and underground Detroit producer Moodyman. Craig Charles himself will be DJ-ing at the festival; one of the UK’s foremost funk and soul spinners, his encyclopaedic knowledge is at the fore each time he gets behind the decks. Guts (solo/MPC) is sublime hip-hop disciple of immense repute, whilst Kon is the last of an increasingly rare breed of dedicated crate diggers, bringing his deep knowledge of obscure goodies to clubs and festivals worldwide.

The Garden Festival 2014

The Garden Festival – which finished on its 10th anniversary in 2015 – originally catalysed the whole festival scene in this part of Croatia, with visionary founders including Nick and Charlotte Colgan instigating what has become one of the world’s most talked about dance music destinations. Post Garden Festival, Nick and Charlotte then launched their most ambitious project to date – building from scratch The Garden Brewery in Zagreb, which has produced 17 different beers shipping to 25 EU countries. They have further plans for expansion in 2017 and beyond as well as a dynamic programme of music too.

Love International 2017 Croatia 2017

The latest names to be added to the Love International 2017 bill include Tony Humphries, Heidi, Midland, Prosumer, Gerd Janson, Job Jobse, Axel Boman’s Studio Barnhus with Kornel Kovacs and Petter Nordkvist, Young Marco, PBR Streetgang, Bill Brewster, Frank Broughton, Moxie, Saoirse, Unabombers, Darshan Jesrani and many more. This is in addition to the many great artists, DJs and performers already revealed in the first line-up news: acts like The Black Madonna, Ben UFO, Palms Trax, Craig Richars, Jazzanova, Horse Meat Disco and others.

Of the new names, Tony Humphries has almost 4 decades worth of experience to call upon – everything from being one of the original Kiss FM pioneers to holding down a residency at one of the USA’s most legendary clubs, Zanzibar, to creating one of the early classic Fabric mixes and remixing everyone from Soul II Soul to Janet Jackson. Heidi’s house and techno sounds make her one of the most feted DJs and producers on the scene, illuminating clubs and festivals across the world; meanwhile, Midland, who enjoyed his own incredible 2016, with his Final Credits one of the tracks of the year, is also on the bill.

Prosumer and Gerd Janson are two long-standing icons of the region –  playing all kinds of delectable disco, electronic oddities and party classics, at the Beach Bar or rocking Barbarella’s deep into the night, expect plenty of fun from them both. One of Europe’s hottest names, Job Jobse, steps up; he has played at everywhere from Burning Man to Panorama Bar, as well as managing the Life and Death label, and is one of the scene’s fastest rising names. Axel Boman brings his full Studio Barnhus crew to Love International: the trio of Axel, Kornel Kovacs and Petter Nordkvist are a label and studio turning out esteemed music both seriously fun and utterly danceable, just like Young Marco’s own playful invention behind the decks.

With over twenty years of parties via NYC to London, Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton know a thing or two about how to work a crowd; making their Tisno debut at Love International, the acclaimed DJs, writers and cultural reflectors will be bringing an abundance of disco. Manchester’s long running duo the Unabombers area also heading to Love International this year, bringing their eclectic souls to the festival, and fellow Northerners Jason Boardman, Moonboots and Balearic Mike join them; Metro Area’s Darshan Jesrani makes a very welcome return, as does Leeds legend Tristan Da Cunha.

Plenty of the new wave of electronic artists will be at the festival too, from Moxie, Saoirse, Man Power and Krywald & Farrer each bringing their take on the electronic sphere. Croatia’s own legend Illija Rudman drops in, then it’s over to some of Love International’s and The Garden’s family and friends, including PBR Streetgang, Maxxi Soundsystem, Dan Beaumont, Krankbrother, Peak & Swift, Lord Of The Isles, James Holroyd, Justin Van Der Volgen and Medlar. Further brilliant additions across a wide range of sublime sounds include Alex Dallas, Andy Hart, Apiento, Beautiful Swimmers, Christophe, Dave Harvey, Ess O Ess, Gatto Fritto, Glowing Palms, Harvey Sutherland, Heidi Lawton, Hodge, House of Traps, Heurta, Ian Blevins, Jaime Rad, Kelvin Andrews, Last Waltz, Lauer, Lexx, Loverfingers, Mark Seven, Moscoman, Mudd, Mr Price, Paramida, Phil Mison, Red Rack Em, Ron & Neil, Rug Dug, Steve Kotey, Tornado Wallace and Waifs and Strays for lots of dancing under the sun and stars.

Love International 2017 dates announced

We’re only part way through another very exciting festival season in Croatia, but there’s already great news regarding one of the new festivals on the scene. Love International 2017 – the festival which kicked off the run of events in Tisno back in late June – has already announced its dates!

But what happened this year? A full week of fun, inspiration, escapism, discovery and the sense of something very special was enjoyed by all at the first Love International. Making the most of the amazing festival site, The Garden Tisno, Love International also embraced the spirit of previous fan favourite The Garden Festival (Croatia’s founding festival) whilst also injecting its own joyous soul and truly making its mark – meaning the event felt comfortably familiar yet also quite different.

All 2,500 tickets sold out for the inaugural Love International. Revellers from across the globe were drawn to this special spot on the amazing Dalmatian coastline for a truly magical week.

It’s no surprise that there are many highlights to look back on from the first Love International – some predicted and some totally unexpected! From MCDE’s disco-tinged party set at Barbarella’s, through to Axel Boman’s bouncing boat party with Abandon Silence; from PBR Streetgang having the Main Stage rocking (as did Jackmaster, Joy Orbison, Roman Flugel, Crazy P and everyone else); the annual Futureboogie voyage and club shows both being major highlights; Magic Door once more brought more glitter and fancy dress thought humanly possible; Hunnee, Prosumer and Pender Street Peppers had the Beach Stage rocking; Craig Richards going back to back with Ben UFO creating a few hours of sensational selections; and finally the festival conclusion – the Secret Island Party – which saw two boat parties and an escape from Tisno to a daytime party which brought the whole adventure to a fitting climax.

The Olive Grove stage also provided some special moments. The beautifully decorated space showcased some brilliant artists, labels and clubs nights; by 5pm most days it was packed out under the sun. The space also held its own in the early hours until dawn, where the Sun Rise Sessions offered a wholly different cadence to the festival in a beatific way to start the day, either straight from Barbarella’s or waking to catch a gentler, mesmerising pace. Indeed, Khruangbin’s dreamy set was another one of the festival’s highlights, with their rapt audience spread sedately amongst the pines.

There were also many more magical moments besides, some too special to put into words! From almost endless hands-in-the-air celebrations to unearthing rare grooves on the dance floor; shared newfound loves under the canopy of Croatian stars; to even more intimate moments away from the site in Tisno, exploring the beautiful region in which the festival is set. And with a real sense of unity, respect for everyone and for the festival environment itself it’s easy to see why many of this year’s guests will be rushing back for more next year. Why not join them?

Dave Harvey says:

“We really could not be any happier with our first year – the people, the music, the setting, the experience. All of it, basically! It really all came together in such a beautiful way, and I would like to thank everyone for making it so special, especially to a backdrop of chaos back at home in the UK. Since the planning started we wanted to bring our own festival to Tisno, and follow on from what the Garden guys did but also make it our own. The vibe at Love International was truly special, everyone was buzzing, it was like one huge family which had come together – and I mean that including the DJs, staff, everyone behind the scenes, not just everyone who travelled far and wide to make it so special. We are already planning for next year, and believe me we can’t wait to get back!”

Love International 2017

The 2017 event will be taking place from Wednesday 28th June to Wednesday 5th July. If you’d like to join in on all the fun (or perhaps you’re a keen returnee!), watch out for early bird tickets which go on sale in September.
