This year’s SunceBeat could be the last ever

The organisers behind the wildly popular festival SunceBeat (20th – 27th July 2023) – the longest-running festival in Tisno, now in its 14th year – have just announced that this year will likely be the last time the festival will be held in Croatia. SunceBeat will definitely not return in 2024, and the team are still deciding on the future – whether to return to Croatia or to continue in a new location in Europe. This is down to a combination of factors, and the SunceBeat team need to take a break after 2023 and develop other ideas. The festival’s big sister event, The Southport Weekender, will continue each Spring in the UK, however.

this year's SunceBeat

All of this means that this year’s SunceBeat will be an absolute blast! Festival founders Alex Lowes and Nick Connolly plus the whole extended team will be sure to put on an absolutely memorable event, celebrating SunceBeat’s enduring legacy with one final get-together this summer. Some of the seminal artists that have played a part in the festival’s identity as well as debut sets from Body & Soul NYC: (Joe Claussell – Danny Krivit – Francois K), Kruder & Dorfmeister (DJ SET) and DJ Spoony plus Kenny Dope, David Morales, Danilo Plessow (MCDE) and his live band Another Taste, Hunee, Antal, Osunlade, Tony Humphries, Children of Zeus (live) and many more.

We’ve made some brilliant friends on this journey which has taken us from the early Petrcane days when the whole idea of festivals in Croatia was in its infancy to the more recent years in Tisno where we’ve amped up our ambition and scale. Throughout this we’ve always kept to our roots in the artists we’ve booked and the amazing and loyal crowd we’ve cultivated through the years, essentially a distillation of The Southport Weekender in terms of our ethos and musical scope. Making so many friends, building these relationships and being lucky to come to this gorgeous part of the world each year has always been the highlight for myself, Nick and the wider SuncéBeat team, and not coming next summer is going to hurt us all. We will dearly miss Croatia’s warm welcome, Tisno’s intimacy and the fantastic festival site at the Garden Resort, the boat parties and of course Barbarella’s.

So this summer is going to be all about celebrating the good times we’ve had – and we have had many – and to party with all of our favourite guests day and night. We know SuncéBeat’s made an indelible imprint in the history of Croatian festivals and the memories will last long, and we expect July to be extra special and a chance to say goodbye to what we have created here in a suitably fitting style.

Be sure to join the global partygoers at this intimate festival in beautiful Tisno for one final spectacular event – you’ll want to be there as the crowd doubtless sheds a tear or two when dawn rises for the final show at legendary open-air club Barbarella’s.

We’ve thought long and hard over this decision and we have to be realistic – myself and Nick have faced many challenges in the last three years running SuncéBeat and ever more so as we now approach this 14th and final edition. Being independent is an integral part of who we are and always will be, but it adds to all of the other factors you need to go well for any event on our festival’s level to work. It’s not been an easy decision – it’s frankly been very painful to come to – but also we know it’s the right one and the essence of SuncéBeat will continue in a new guise elsewhere in Europe. And whilst I would always say you never know, I do feel that this is our last Croatian odyssey. So we’re going to conclude SuncéBeat with as big a bang as possible for everyone and make a memorable last party which will have Tisno rocking. We want to give everyone the best memories and something to cherish. It’s been a wonderful, bonkers and love-filled journey.

Alex Lowes, SunceBeat co-founder

Brand new festival Gates of Agartha to take place in a Roman quarry near Pula

There’s a brand new festival for Croatia’s events calendar and it’s one that will take place in a very impressive location! Gates of Agartha (23rd – 24th June 2023) will be held in Cave Romane, a historic Roman quarry near Pula that was in use for centuries by the Romans to extract Istrian limestone – a material that was used to build the Colosseum in Rome. How impressive is that?!

Gates of Agartha

About Gates of Agartha & Line-Up

The two-day festival will blend together the past and the present, combining the region’s rich history with its wonderful and vibrant culture.

On the bill will be Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus, classy tech house from Italian titan Marco Carola, new school Dutch house star Chris Stussy, Spanish hit maker Dennis Cruz, Greek mainstay Echonomist, plus more from Pablo Panda and The Ace Brothers. There’s also a special guest that is yet to be announced. It’s a great line-up for what will surely be a spine-tingling event.

The festival is brought to you by the same people behind the Echoes from Agartha experience in Cappadocia, Turkey. This festival in Croatia is the first of their new series of destination events that explore mystical and mythical places around the world ad where art, culture and history collide.

Gates of Agartha is also being held in partnership with local promoters BSH Events, renowned in Croatia for their out-of-the-box approach to unique venues. Clearly, they’ve knocked it out of the park in this case! Cave Romane will be lit up with immersive and cutting-edge lighting technology, as well as filled with world-class sound systems.

Mystic Mountain Festival

Learn more about the magical Mystic Mountain Festival in June

These days, Croatia is home to a huge number of music festivals, with something for all music tastes and desires – EDM, hip hop, house, rock and much, much more. But we’ve just come to learn about the intriguing Mystic Mountain Festival (19th – 25th June 2023…yes, taking place over the summer solstice) that offers something a little different – something a little extra – than all the rest, and it’s something you’ll want to know about too!

Mystic Mountain Festival

About the Mystic Mountain Festival

Would you believe it, a festival located very close to the Plitvice Lakes National Park? That’s the Mystic Mountain Festival! Actually situated in Rudopolje in Lika-Senj county, the festival site is only about a 10-minute drive to that famous National Park in this beautiful part of Croatia as well as being an hour away from the coast. Mystic Mountain is also incredibly close to one of Europe’s longest ziplines, the Zipline Pazi Medo (which translates to Beware of the Bear Zipline!).

Mystic Mountain is also something unlike just a regular music festival. Intended to be more than just a place for partying, Mystic Mountain is something between a nature retreat and a music festival, with a deeper sense of purpose.

Mystic Mountain Festival

With 700 attendees, the festival offers a cosy and intimate vibe with the idea that everyone gets to know everyone else during the week-long event – the duration of which is rare for a small festival. You’ll be amongst people with similar interests, who are explorers and adventurers, curious about finding out more about being and life.

Your days will be filled with music, transformative workshops, seminars, lectures and professionally guided hiking tours – ALL of which are included in the price of the festival ticket. Good food and drinks will also be on offer.

But this festival also balances its music with the sounds of nature and silence. That means that music starts on the main dance floor each day at 11am, but will be turned off at midnight Monday to Thursday and at 5am-6am on Friday and Saturday night. So a true balance of four silent nights and two full party nights.

Mystic Mountain will be a week-long celebration of life!

Hiking tours

Mystic Mountain Line-Up

A mix of electronic journeys around the world, shamanic downtempo, oriental house, tribal techno, afro house, psy trance, Balkan beats and more will fill the festival site.

Acts so far announced include Blue Forest Live, Pepi Jogarde, Stevo, Juha, Zmayo, Cosmic Ocean, Riodario, Zho, Sretni Edi and more. See the festival’s Line-Up page for more info and to hear previews of these acts.

Mystic Mountain

Tickets for Mystic Mountain

Tickets for the festival are currently priced at €105 for the full-week, or €90 for the Thursday to Sunday long weekend. (These same tickets are priced at €80 and €65 for residents of countries in the former Yugoslavia.)

Tickets can be purchased at mysticmountainfestival.com.

Accommodation at Mystic Mountain

The festival ticket includes space in the on-site camp. The camp offers drinking water, showers and toilets.

Alternatively (at an additional cost) you can arrange indoor accommodation at any private accommodation facility in the area (you may find our Accommodation in the Plitvice Lakes page helpful), or at the Big Bear Resort that is 3km from the festival site. The Big Bear Resort offers luxury four-star mobile homes for groups.

Dimensions 2023 announces full line-up

Following a very successful tenth edition of the festival last year, the epic Dimensions Festival has announced its full line-up this morning – and it really looks to be a spectacular year. Croatia’s most forward-thinking festival returns to its new home of The Garden Resort in Tisno from 31st August to 4th September 2023 with another untouchable mix of cult stars, pioneering legends and new school talents as well as the famous boat and label parties, live sets, back-to-back exclusives, debuts and much more.

The previous ten editions of the festival have seen the event really build up a special feel, meaning every dance is a special one, plenty of musical memories are made and new bonds are formed. All of that is no surprise given the experiences on offer – sailing out to sea on one of the hugely popular boat parties; baking in the sun as DJs drop warm beats on the beach; getting freaky at one of the after-parties or dancing under star-lit skies at the cult Barbarella’s Discotheque. And with the festival set on a sweeping, secluded bay, beside towering pines and with gorgeous sea views, the Garden Resort has proven to be the perfect setting.

With Dimensions all about high-quality production, carefully curated line-ups and crowds of serious music lovers, there is no finer place to spend your summer.

Sonic Festival Dubrovnik

The first Sonic Festival to take place in Dubrovnik’s stunning Lovrijenac Fortress this September

A new name on Croatia’s impressive music festival scene comes to Dubrovnik this September. Sonic Festival’s Sonic Sunset Session is to be held in the mighty Lovrijenac Fortress in Dubrovnik on 8th and 9th September 2022 – electronic music fans will delight in partying it up in this amazing location, the first time it will be used as a festival site.

Sonic Festival Dubrovnik

About Sonic Festival

Sonic Festival’s first edition is being presented as the Sonic Sunset Session to provide revellers with an unforgettable experience of both the location and the entire event. And some of the top names in the house and techno scene – both internationally and locally – are on the bill for this first edition: Italian producer and DJ Marco Faraone; one of Ibiza’s go-to DJs, Jamie Roy; and regional acts such as Danijel Čehranov, Dea Tosh, NEROA, Brigitta & MattButt.

Hailing from Tuscany, Marco Faraone grew up immersed in music – his father was a DJ in the 80s, and his initial foray into DJing was dominated by the many hip-hop records that comprised his then-modest collection. Marco then graduated to playing drum ‘n’ bass, before settling on a discerning techno vibe for which he is best known today. Marco became a resident at Florence’s globally-renowned Tenax club and quickly graduated from being a ‘crafty up-and-comer’ to one of modern techno’s most recognised and respected names. Marco’s productions have graced some of the scene’s most respected labels such as Drumcode, Defected and Rekids as well as his own much-respected UNCAGE imprint.

Jamie Roy is someone who lives and breathes underground electronic music culture in all its forms. It’s therefore no surprise that Jamie quickly became one of Ibiza’s go-to DJs in 2019 when he held a residency at the legendary Ushuaia for Nic Fanciulli’s ‘Dance Or Die’ events. As a producer, he has landed on the likes of Repopulate Mars, Trick, Unsound, Saved, Kaluki and Under No Illusion. With each and every new EP, Roy shows a subtle evolution of his sound while staying true to his roots. Whether playing an intense club set at places like Studio 338 or La Terrazza Barcelona, or
laying it down for huge crowds on main stages at BPM Festival Costa Rica or Elrow in Glasgow, Roy always knows exactly what record to reach for to make the best connection with his crowd.

Danijel Čehranov, the owner of Last95 Records, is one of Belgrade’s most sought-after DJs, as well as one of the most successful regional music producers. He has played at the amazing Dance Arena at Exit Festival, the Main Stage at the Sea Dance Festival, and also in New York, Moscow, Istanbul and the entire region.

The Yacht Week Croatia

The Yacht Week Presents launches in Croatia this summer with Drumcode And Hot Creations

A highlight for any of you who like to take to the seas to party it up during your holidays, The Yacht Week returns to Croatia this summer partnering with leading electronic music labels Drumcode and Hot Creations for “The Yacht Week Presents”.

“The Yacht Week Presents” will see each music label join what’s called “the original floating festival” for 7 days of music and incredible parties set in unique locations all along the stunning Croatian coast. There will be intimate and exclusive sets from a number of highly respected DJs including Adam Beyer (of Drumcode) and Jamie Jones (of Hot Creations).

The Yacht Week Croatia

The Yacht’s Week’s sailing flotilla of just 500 people is a festival like no other, with parties taking place in outdoor and seafront venues, historic Croatian fortresses…and out at sea too, of course! In the case of the latter, this means the opportunity to party it up on a floating dancefloor and with a floating DJ booth fully equipped with a VOID Acoustics sound system. And if you want something beyond the partying, there will also be ample opportunity for exploring, taking in culture, wellness and adventure – a true part of any The Yacht Week experience.

The Yacht Week’s motto is ‘life is better at sea’; The Yacht Week Presents takes this to a whole new level, joining with groundbreaking electronic music brands and artists to bring the flotilla together, creating a festival community where once-in-a-lifetime experiences bond friends together for life. There will also be more announcements to come from The Yacht Week Presents – keep your eyes peeled.

There’s no doubt that this summer is going to be very special indeed!

More on The Yacht Week

If you’ve already done the usual rounds of holidays – villas, festivals, partying abroad – The Yacht Week offers the opportunity to experience something completely different.

You and your friends can book yourselves onto a luxury yacht complete with a skipper and host; couples and single travellers can join a yacht of like-minded adventurers and create a brand new festival crew. Sail the open waters and sleep under the stars, and be a part of the unique ‘circle raft’ where all yachts join together in a circle for a party at sea, or the ‘tunnel raft’, featuring two lines of yachts. The Yacht Week is one big party; this summer, it will also be delivered with a cutting-edge soundtrack curated by two of the world’s most essential electronic music labels.

The Yacht Week also offers other routes in Croatia on other dates; see www.theyachtweek.com for more details. Keep up to date with all their latest news on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
