Flying from the UK & Ireland
Unfortunately, there are no longer many flights to Rijeka Airport (which is actually on the island of Krk, although easily reachable from the mainland) from the UK. Croatia Airlines are currently the only airline to fly direct, with a once-a-week flight (on Wednesdays) from London Heathrow.

If you're travelling from the UK, the best idea would be to fly to Trieste in Italy (see below) and travel to Rijeka from there.

You can also fly to Pula (which does have regular flights from the UK) and take one of the numerous daily buses from there to Rijeka. See our Getting to Istria page for details of flights from the UK and Europe to Pula, and search for bus timetables on the Autotrans website.

Flying to Zagreb is also a possibility (see below) as there's a direct daily bus from Zagreb Airport to Rijeka.

Flying from the UK via Italy
If you fly from the UK to Trieste with Ryanair, there are regular bus services from the main bus station in downtown Trieste to Rijeka. The journey is between 2 to 3 hours, depending on which bus you take. See our Travelling from Trieste page for full details.

Flying from Europe
TUIfly have direct flights from Leipzig, Hannover, Cologne-Bonn, Stuttgart and Memmingen to Rijeka.

Air Berlin have flights from Nuremberg.

Helvetic have flights from Zurich.

Norwegian have direct flights from Oslo.

Flying via Zagreb
You can fly to Zagreb and in fact get a bus direct from Zagreb Airport to Rijeka. There are two buses per day, departing Zagreb Airport at 3.30pm and 9pm. A one-way ticket is 145 Kunas (about £17.50/$25/€20, as of April 2009), journey time is about 3 hours. See details at Pleso Prijevoz.

Bus or train from Europe
There are services from several major European cities to Rijeka, including direct train services from Munich and Ljubljana. See the Die Bahn website for timetable details.

Ferry from Europe
There are no ferry international ferry services to Rijeka!

From elsewhere in Croatia
Rijeka is pretty well connected by train and bus from elsewhere in Croatia. There is also a coastal ferry route that begins in Rijeka and goes to Split, Stari Grad on Hvar, Korcula and Dubrovnik (and on to Bari in Italy) run by Jadrolinija. It's a great way to travel down the Croatian coastline!
