Flying from the UK & Ireland to Rijeka
Croatia Airlines have a once-a-week flight from London Heathrow to Rijeka that then flies on to Zagreb. (Note: Route TBC for 2012)

Note: Rijeka Airport is actually near Omisalj on the island of Krk! However, it is an easy transfer to Rijeka and other places in the Kvarner Riviera. Bus company Autotrolej operate transfers from the airport to both Rijeka and Opatija - please see this page from their site for a timetable (click on the link under "Dokumenti"). The first table gives times to the airport, the second from the airport. Slatina is in Opatija, Jelacicev Trg is in Rijeka.

If you want a few more options if you're travelling from the UK, the best idea would be to fly to Trieste in Italy (see below) and travel to Rijeka from there. Alternatively, you could fly to Zagreb itself and then utilise the daily Croatia Airlines bus which transfers passengers direct from Zagreb Airport to Rijeka (no need to go to Zagreb Bus Station!). See Flying via Zagreb.

If you're travelling during spring/summer, you can also fly to Pula and take one of the numerous daily buses from there to Rijeka. See our Getting to Istria page for details of flights from the UK and Europe to Pula, and search for bus timetables on the Autotrans website.

Flying from the UK via Italy
If you fly from the UK to Trieste with Ryanair - which operates year-round, near-daily services on this route - there are regular bus services from the main bus station in downtown Trieste to Rijeka. The journey is between 2 to 3 hours, depending on which bus you take. See our Travelling from Trieste page for full details.

Reaching the Kvarner Riviera via Zagreb
You can fly to Zagreb and then get a bus direct from Zagreb Airport to Rijeka. There is a daily bus that departs the airport at 3.30pm. A one-way ticket is 145 Kuns (about £16.50/$26.50/€19, as of November 2011) with baggae 5 Kuna a piece, journey time is about 3 hours. See details at Pleso Prijevoz.

Travelling by bus or train from Europe
There are train services from several major European cities to Rijeka, including direct services from Munich and Ljubljana. See the Die Bahn website for timetable details.

Ferry from Europe
There are no international ferry services to Rijeka!

From elsewhere in Croatia
Rijeka is pretty well connected by train and bus from other parts of Croatia. There is also a coastal ferry route that begins in Rijeka and goes to Split, Hvar (Stari Grad), Korcula and Dubrovnik (and on to Bari in Italy) run by Jadrolinija. It's a great way to travel down the Croatian coastline!
