Naturist Holidays in Croatia

Organised naturist holidays in Croatia first appeared in the 1930s. One of the early pioneers was none other than Edward VIIIth – then a visitor to one of the naturist beaches on the island of Rab. (He was travelling with Mrs Simpson, but she apparently was not too keen on bathing in the nude.)

Naturist Holidays in Croatia

The real boom in naturist holidays started in the 1960s when many naturist camps and facilities were opened in Istria and Dalmatia. Over 100,000 holidaymakers enjoyed these holidays annually.

At present, this type of holiday in Croatia is not as popular as it once was due to competition from other European countries in which similar facilities have been created. Nevertheless, thousands and thousands of naturists still come to Croatia to enjoy the beautiful country and its coastline and for a peaceful holiday.

There are many naturist beaches in Croatia, located all along the coastline. Locally (or on a map) you will see these marked locally as ‘FKK’. This stands for Freikörperkultur, and FKK is the German notification for naturism.

In case you’re wondering, we wouldn’t say that Croats are especially keen on naturism (although we’re sure some are) – naturist holiday camps and beaches were largely set up for foreign visitors, rather than because of any particular interest domestically.

Naturist Holidays in Croatia – Holiday Camps

If you’re keen for a naturist holiday in Croatia, we’d recommend heading to one of the specific naturist holiday resorts. Rather than just enjoying a bit of naturism for a few hours (e.g. at a naturist beach), you can really live out the naturist lifestyle all day long!

Specific naturist holiday camps in Croatia include the Naturist Resort Solaris and Naturist Camping Ulika, both near Porec, Istria; Naturist Camp Valalta near Rovinj, Istria; and CampingIN Kanegra FKK Umag, near that town in northern Istria.
