Zagreb Accommodation

As befitting a capital city, there’s a very wide choice of Zagreb accommodation with something for all budgets! There are several hostels in the city as well as other types of budget accommodation, whilst there’s also an impressive array of 4- and 5-star hotels, the latter of which include the Sheraton Hotel Zagreb, The Westin Zagreb, the Hotel Le Premier, the new Met Boutique Hotel and the wonderfully grand Regent Esplanade Hotel, which was once a stop-off point for those travelling on the Orient Express. (The hotel – pictured below – is located near the train station.)

At the other end of the scale, there is now a very good range of hostels in Zagreb. These include the Youth Hostel at Petrinjska Ulica 77, also near the main railway station and the Ravnice Youth Hostel (1 Ravnice 38d). The funkily-designed Swanky Mint Hostel, the stylish Chillout Hostel Zagreb and the modern Main Square Hostel all have excellent locations very close to (you’ve guessed) Zagreb’s main square, Trg ban Jelacic.

Where should I stay in Zagreb?

Geographically, Zagreb isn’t an especially large city. Most accommodation tends to be concentrated right in the centre, close to either the bus or train station (or, most probably, both). Unsurprisingly, this is the best part of the city to stay in both for choice and to be near the action such as the main sights!

Nevertheless, if your chosen accommodation place is slightly further out, it is easy to get around Zagreb by public transport.

Apartments in Zagreb

Private accommodation is big in Croatia – and now in Zagreb too, thanks to concepts such as Airbnb. If you need more space than a hotel room, and amenities such as a kitchen or washing machine (perhaps you’re travelling with kids), renting an apartment is ideal.

Accommodation near Zagreb Airport

If you’re perhaps just transiting – for a night – to travel elsewhere in Croatia (or Europe), you might think about staying near the airport.

Don’t bother! Unlike other cities, there are very few accommodation choices near the airport and what there is isn’t even that close. You are much better off finding accommodation in the city itself – and it’s easy to travel to and from the airport.
