Central Croatia

Central Croatia is the portion of the country that – for the purposes of the Visit Croatia website, at least, covers Zagreb County, Karlovac County and Sisak-Moslavina County. Essentially, it is the central part of the country around the capital city Zagreb that stretches from Croatia’s northern neighbour Slovenia to Bosnia and Hercegovina to the south.

The main town in this part of the country – besides Zagreb, of course – is Karlovac which has a population of just under 50,000 people.

Getting to Central Croatia and Getting Around

Undoubtedly the best airport to fly to is Zagreb Airport, which is connected to many cities in Europe and even further afield with numerous flights.

From Zagreb, there are then excellent links to the towns in Central Croatia by bus, and to some locations by train too. Take a look at the Zagreb Bus Terminal and Croatian Railways websites for more details on timetables and tickets.

Should you find you can’t travel direct to your chosen destination, consider travelling first to Karlovac and then on from there. There are numerous daily buses and trains on this route; by both bus and train the journey time is about 50 minutes to 1 hour.
