Mali Ston is super. I highly recommend visiting for the seafood
and people. There are a few boutique hotels which are lovely and
quite accommodating. If you are looking to have a true Croatian
experience Mali Ston is the place to go. It is well placed for
travellers, shoppers, and the sun-bathers alike. Around the mountain
and about 2 1/2 minutes away is Ston. It's a bit larger than Mali
Ston and has many concerts and festivities on weekends. A trip
to Korcula or Dubrovnik is only about 1 hour. For Split it is
about 3 hours, but well worth the ride. I do recommend renting
a car, because it makes life a bit more free.

the future.14 year old daughter now bungee jumps (with dad). Visited
Novigrad (quiter coastal town), Postonia caves, Venice, plus the
odd boat trip/coach trip. No sand, who cares. Our next visit will

Spent last two weeks of August 2002 in Hvar with our kids
aged 10 & 14. Had not been to Croatia before. It took us a
couple of days to get used to there being no beaches. We took
boats to Palmizana and Zdrilca, thought Palmizana was a bit over-rated.
The things we enjoyed most were walking eastwards to a couple
of little stony coves at a bay which I think was called Mekicevica
there is café there called Robinson which is pleasant. We took
the fish picnic to Bol which we enjoyed. We hired a boat for the
day which was fun. We enjoyed the atmosphere in Hvar and sitting
in the cafes and bars at any time of day was great.

Stayed in Sutivan for two weeks and travelled to other parts
of Croatia but found Sutivan very unsuitable without own transport
as bus service is very poor and taxi driver know how to charge.
Sister and Children spent most of their tme in Supetar as there
was more there for them to do and there was a wider variety of
restaurants to choose from.
Sister would never step foot in the place again as she found the
people to be very unpolite and service in restaurants to be very
poor. Travelled on return journey from Dubrovnik with the worst
group of people I have ever had the misfortune to be with.
Best part of the Holiday was the 8 hours we spent in Prague on
the return flight home

Stayed at the Ostrea for 3 nights. We chose it as a central
place from which to explore the rural area to the north of Dubrovnik
and the Peljesac. The hotel was fantastic, it was of a very high
standard and the staff were very attentive. Mali Ston itself is
a wonderful little village with much archaeology, notably the
famous defensive walls. Mali Ston is at the heart of the main
shellfish growing area and the food in the restaurants is excellent
and reasonably priced.

We stayed at the Hotel Omorika for three nights. It was a
bit far from the town centre (2km) and when we wanted to go down
there from the hotel we asked for a taxi to be called - it cost
50 kunas each way.
The hotel itself and the surrounding area, however, provided plenty
to keep us busy. The beach was very close to the hotel - down
the steps - and everyday it seemed to be crowded with German,
Austrian, Italian, Czech and Croatian people, but we didn't come
across any fellow Brits! We didn't really try any of the beach
facilites, but from what we could see there were plenty - from
paragliding to water skiing and that banana boat thing, as well
as paddle boats which we saw families of five people enjoying!
There was a nice restaurant with a very wide variety of food nearby
(and more restaurants as well). There was also what seemed to
be quite a long promenade along the sea - nice for walking along
in the evenings - and along this there were plenty of cafes and
small bars for a nice beer before bed.
We paid 550 kunas per night for the hotel. This included breakfast,
which was buffet style and of which there was quite a wide variety,
from cornflakes to cold meats and some hot stuff too, I think.
You could also have dinner at the hotel if this was included in
your price (but we didn't opt for this).
Rooms were fairly large, and it looked like they had been redone
recently, we new furniture and carpets. Most rooms had balconies
(some over-looking the sea) but they seemed a bit shabby (bit
of paint peeling on the rails). Rooms were clean, though!
Would you go again? Yes, the hotel was satisfactory,
and the resort is quite lively!

This was our first visit to Dubrovnik in Croatia, and we were
very happy! Dubrovnik is a fascinating place, particularly if
you are a history buff. We had a fantastic time in the local museum
and saw the documents connecting this city republic with England
in the 16th century. A walk on the city ramparts is a must. The
Hotel Excelsior is a 5-star hotel and is owned by a British company,
Wren Hotels. Everything was fine - you could tell that the hotel
had undergone a massive renovation recently, and it was very smartly
decorated. Breakfasts were plentiful, and we had our dinners in
different restaurants in the old town, to try a bit of variety.
Would you go again? Yes, yes, yes! We are
seriously considering booking for next summer. |
