Croatia has eight major airports:
Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka (on the island of Krk),
Zadar, Brac and Osijek. If you're flying into Croatia from elsewhere
in Europe, you'll almost certainly be flying to one of the first
five.
Flights to Croatia from the UK and Ireland In the past few years, the number of airlines operating direct, scheduled flights to Croatia has grown and grown. Great news for travellers! Currently, eight airlines have direct, scheduled
flights from the UK to Croatia: British Airways, Easyjet, Wizz
Air, Ryanair, Thomsonfly, Flybe, Jet2.com and Croatia
Airlines, whilst Aer
Lingus have flights from Dublin to Dubrovnik. bmibaby will introduce a new, twice-weekly East Midlands to Dubrovnik service this summer.
Note that some of these airlines only operate flights during summer - see the table below for details.
Try searching for British Airways flights to Dubrovnik below:
It is possible to book direct Croatia
Airlines Flights
with Expedia.co.uk. (you can also book BA flights, and non-direct
flights with other European airlines)
N.B. Croatia Airlines often offer very good value flights, somtimes even more so than "budget" airlines. You may not be able to fly direct to your final destination, but by flying via Zagreb you will be able to reach other Croatian airports on easy, connecting flights. Keep this in mind!
Which airlines fly year-round to Croatia? Croatia Airlines, British Airways and Wizz Air have year round services to Croatia. (British Airways only flies to Dubrovnik, Wizz Air only to Zagreb.)
What about 2011? Though we're still in summer 2010, we thought we'd compile a list of airlines and flight routes that are confirmed for 2011 - see Getting There By Air - 2011.
Below is a current summary of the flights to Croatia for 2010: (text in italics show dates to/from operation, if applicable)
2010 Timetable
Details correct as of 12th July 2010
Note 1: There are also far more options for flying to other Croatian destinations (Pula, Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik) year round with connecting flights via Zagreb on Croatia Airlines
Some charter airlines operate seasonal services
from the UK to coastal airports.
Do any low-cost airlines
fly direct from the UK to Croatia? Yes, after years of waiting, low cost airlines now fly
to Croatia! Over the past few years of operation, the low cost carriers have changed their routes of operation and some routes - unfortunately - no longer exist. Generally, all routes that operated in 2009 remain in 2010, though we now also have a new airline, bmibaby, operating an East Midlands to Dubrovnik route. Jet2.com have increased their routes, and Easyjet will start flights from London Stansted to Split and Dubrovnik as well as their existing flights from London Gatwick.
For a full listing of the various low-cost airlines that operate direct flights from the UK to Croatia use this little search widget here (click on your departing airport, then select the appropriate destination in Croatia):
Remember, you can still also fly to an airport in a
country near Croatia (e.g. in Slovenia, Italy, Austria or Hungary) or get an indirect
low-cost flight. Most of these flights involve a stopover in Germany. See our Getting There homepage
for more details.
And a further reminder: if you book early enough,
you can get great bargains with full-fare airlines! Budget
airlines may give you great flight prices, but the extra travel
costs (buses, trains, ferries etc.) in reaching your final destination
can really add up.
Flying to Croatia from outside Europe As you won't be able to fly into Croatia directly,
the best idea is to first research which European city you can
fly to reasonably easily and cheaply. London, Frankfurt and
Rome are good cities to fly to in order to get connecting flights
to Croatia, but you might also like to consider other alternatives
to make use of budget airlines (see our Getting
There homepage for options) or to perhaps get ferries across
from Italy.
