From the UK & Ireland
As Dubrovnik is the most southern city in Croatia, the most practical way to reach it is to do so by air. There are now a considerable number of airlines operating flights during the summer months.

Year-round flights
British Airways are the only airline to operate year-round flights from the UK (London Gatwick) to Dubrovnik, with daily flights operating from March to late summer, and four flights a week at other times of the year.

Summer flights
During the summer months, Easyjet have several flights a week from both London Stansted and London Gatwick to Dubrovnik (with near daily flights from the latter airport during peak season i.e. July and August).

Monarch (new for 2012!) are to fly from London Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester several times a week to Dubrovnik.

There is also one flight a week from both London Gatwick and Manchester with Thomsonfly whilst Jet2.com fly weekly from Leeds Bradford, Manchester (2x a week), Edinburgh, Belfast and (new for 2012!) from Newcastle too.

FlyBe operate a once-a-week flight from Birmingham and bmibaby do the same from East Midlands.

Aer Lingus have three flights a week from Dublin from the end of March

Croatia Airlines also operate direct flights from London during summer, and further there are further options with them via Zagreb.

Note that some of the above routes may only operate in the proper summer months - i.e. June, July and August - whilst other services start in March and run until October. Please see our Getting There - By Air section for the latest flight details.

From Dubrovnik Airport, you can book a transfer car or minibus with Holiday Taxis - both single and return journeys are available, and you can book transfers from the airport to Dubrovnik, Cavtat and other towns and resorts in southern Dalmatia.

Flying via Zagreb
Croatia Airlines have several flights a week from Zagreb to Dubrovnik. If you can't find a suitable flight direct to Dubrovnik, see if you can fly/travel to Zagreb and then get a Croatia Airlines flight from there.

If you're travelling during winter, the above route via Zagreb is also suitable to give you a few more options.

Bus & Ferry from Europe
There is an international bus service from Trieste in Italy, which takes about 12 hours, and is run by SAF.

There is also an international ferry service from Bari which runs March to mid November (and which is more frequent during summer) that is operated by Jadrolinija. Do also see our Travelling from Italy section for more details.

From elsewhere in Croatia
Dubrovnik can also be reached by bus from Zagreb (which takes about 12 hours), Rijeka or Split.

The most pleasant journey to the city is probably by Jadrolinija ferry from Rijeka, which stops at islands and ports such as Zadar, Split, Hvar and Korcula along the way, and takes about 17 hours. Note, however, that this service only operates during summer (beginning of June to end of September).

Don't try and reach Dubrovnik by train, however – the city famously has no train station.
