Unsurprisingly, given Croatia's beautiful and lengthy coastline and the often-quoted fact about the country having more than 1,000 islands, taking a cruise along Croatia's coastline is definitely one of the best ways of seeing and experiencing the country.
Going on a cruise also takes the pressure off planning your holiday - once booked, all you have to do is board the boat and let the captain navigate it to various islands and spots on the mainland!
You can, of course, do your own sailing in the country by hiring a boat (or bringing your own, if you're lucky enough) but there's plenty of opportunity for either hiring or joining a fully-manned boat for a week or more.
A cheaper version of a cruise
Okay, so it's not quite the same thing at all...but for those looking to get a least a small part of the cruise experience, simply hop on one of the ferries that go up and down the coast, or from the coast to the islands. You'll be sharing with many other people, there won't be chefs creating meals just for you, and the captain won't drop anchor on a deserted stetch of coast so everyone can dive into the sea...but the scenery will be just the same, and it will be much cheaper! See our Travelling Around - By Ferry page for details of which ferry companies operate where.
