Events in March 2024
A region famed for its oysters must have an event dedicated to them – right? Luckily, it does! The Festival of Oysters takes place on St Joseph’s Day (19th March) and the days after in Ston and Mali Ston, when a multitude of oyster dishes can be sampled, along with some local wines. Traditional singing and dancing also takes place.
The Dubrovnik Outdoor Festival normally takes place at the end of March each year. The festival’s aim is to showcase the natural beauty of the southern Dalmatian region to activity holiday visitors. As well as seminars and workshops, there will also be plenty of sports activities on offer including runs and an adventure race combining sea kayaking, running and abseiling.
Events in June 2024
As with many other Croatian coastal towns and cities, Cavtat also has a run of summer events from June to September, featuring concerts, dance performances, street performances and more. All events are free; check locally for full details.
The Festival of Peljesac Flavours takes place in June and July; guests can sample local wines and oysters at restaurants in a number of restaurants in the towns on the Peljesac Peninsula.
Events in July 2024
Zen Opuzen is a street art festival that combines numerous artistic and cultural activities in the town of Opuzen every July. There is usually some stunning sand art displayed (temporarily, of course!) on the banks of the River Neretva.
Cavtat also hosts its Summer Carnival over a weekend in July with plenty of outdoor fun for you to join.
Events in August 2024
The Salt Festival in Ston takes place at the end of August/early September. (Salt production being something Ston is famous for). Restaurants in Ston and the surrounding area will offer specially priced menus for the duration of the festival, showcasing their dishes and special wines from the region. There will also be plenty of entertainment (such as live music) and you can also learn more about the salt harvest.
Events in September 2024
The Ston Wall Marathon (you’ve read that correctly) takes place at the end of September and must surely be one of the most unique running races in the world.
The Epidaurus Festival is in its 18th year in 2024, taking place in Cavtat in September. The arts festival – named after the old name for Cavtat – largely focuses on music but also includes art, drama, theatre and other cultural events.
Events in October 2024
The Unseen Festival is a film festival held every year in early October in Cavtat. Both Croatian and international films are displayed in public locations, with accompanying workshops also held.
Events in December 2024
Scents of Christmas will be in its 17th year this year. Held the week of Christmas Day (so a few days before and after the big day) in the small towns (Cilipi, Drvenik) of the Konavle region, there are food and wine presentations and tastings, music, markets and more.
